Week 8: Garnavillo Hawks, our heated enemy

North Iowa Times
Mar-Mac Holds Off Spirited Garnavillo to Move Up to #2
McGREGOR, IA—Garnavillo's star halfback, Tyrell Lima ran for 16 yards the first time he touched the ball, and 38 yards the first time he touched it in the second half. He averaged 5 yards a carry and ran for 96 total. The Garnavillo defense sacked Spartan QB Lincoln Ingram five times.

But it wasn't enough to stop the Spartans from steamrolling. Mar-Mac converted 7 out of 14 3rd down opportunities on their way to a 24-14 victory Friday night.

Mar-Mac FB Brant Eppbright proved a difference-maker early. "Brant converted 4 or 5 third downs in the first half." said coach Everett Malone, "It seemed every time he touched the ball he got another first down. Brant's numbers may not reflect it, but he is one of the primary reasons our offense has been so efficient." Eppbright didn't see many carries Friday night, but he did average over 6 yards per touch.

Once again, however, the deadly combination of QB Lincoln Ingram and TE Seth Hackett lit up the board for the Spartans. Ingram threw for 2 touchdown passes and ran in a third. Hackett caught 41 yards worth of passes and his conference-leading 7th touchdown.

Friday night's win takes Mar-Mac's record to 7-1 and moves the Spartans up to the #2 ranking in Iowa's division 1A.
