As regarding your other question, about playing Professional Footy.. I went to the source, the English Football Association (the FA).. and this is what their rules state.

C. RULES RELATING TO PLAYERS

Players with Written Contracts

1. (a) Minimum Age

(i) A Player under eighteen (18) years of age and in receipt of full-time

education* in accordance with the Education Acts may not enter into a

contract of employment with a Club in membership of The Association or an

Affiliated Association.

(ii) A Player under seventeen (17) years of age may not enter into a contract of

employment with a Club in membership with The Association or an Affiliated

Association, except as a Trainee or Scholar as provided for by Rule C3.
