Mar-Mac Spartans: A High School Challenge

In 1992, following years of declining enrollment, Mar-Mac Community High School in McGregor, Iowa was closed. The remaining students of the Mar-Mac district were compelled to attend classes at a nearby rival school, MFL in Monona, Iowa.

But in 2020, as the population of the area and the average income of the communities of McGregor and Marquette increased, Mar-Mac High School was once again reopened. The Spartans came back to life.

Mar-Mac High School last won the Iowa state football championship in 1904. It has been more than a century since the Spartans hoisted a championship trophy, and more than 50 years since the Spartans even fielded a football team.

This dynasty will trace the reborn Mar-Mac Spartans in their quest for an Upper Mississippi Valley Conference title, and—should fate allow—an Iowa state high school championship.
