Top Jet
Hempstead, NY - The goal during the Jets bye week was to continue negotiations with John Abraham and sign him. The Jets and Abraham have come to an agreement that will pay Abraham $51.2 million over the next six seasons, the largest contract signed by a defensive end. The deal includes an $11.2 million signing bonus.
Abraham was a Pro-Bowl selection following the 2001 and 2002 season, however, in 2003 he was held to just 6.5 sacks, his lowest total since his rookie season. Abraham appears to be the player the Jets envisioned they saw following the 2002 season. Abraham has matched last years sack total in just 9 games, he has also been a disruptive force on many running plays. Abraham has been healthy the past two seasons and is now a Jet through 2009.
