John Hall, Press Release
03/08/2003

Ashburn, VA – The Washington Redskins announced today that they have signed kicker John Hall. Terms of the contract were not disclosed. The six-year NFL veteran is a tough-minded and consistent competitor who has shown his ability to come through in critical game situations, nailing seven game-winning field goals among other clutch performances thus far in his career.
Hall, 28, comes to Washington after spending the first six years of his professional career with the New York Jets, scoring more than 100 points in five of his six seasons (93 points in 2000). He has connected on 149-of-203 field goals (regular season career-long of 55 yards; 60 yards in pre-season) and 205-of-210 extra points as a pro. His 652 career points rank him third all-time among Jets players, and he reached the 300-point total faster than any other player in franchise history. Hall turned in a solid performance in 2002, making 24-of-31 field goals in the regular season and playing a key role in leading the Jets into the playoffs. He was a perfect 2-for-2 in post-season play.

The 6-3, 220 lb. kicker handled both place kicking and kickoffs during 2001, finishing the season 24-of-31 and 32-of-32 on extra points. In addition, Hall converted a 53-yard field goal against Oakland with under a minute left to secure the Jets with their first playoff berth since 1998. His solid kick-offs helped the Jets secure excellent starting field position throughout the season, leading New York to finish ranked 2nd in the AFC and 5th in the NFL in the category.

In 2000, he connected on 21-of-32 field goals and recorded nine touchbacks. He set a career-high for field goal percentage in 1999 (81.8 %) converting on 27-of-33 field goals and finished with 108 points. He equaled a career-best with 120 points in 1998 making 25-of-35 field goals and a career-high 45 extra points. He began his career as an undrafted free agent in 1997, scoring a total of 120 points and setting a modern-day record for touchbacks with 29, earning him AFC Rookie of the Week and numerous all-rookie team honors at the end of the season.

Hall played collegiate ball at the University of Wisconsin and finished his career as the fifth all-time leading scorer with 186 points. He also holds the school’s record for the longest field goal (60 yards). Hall is a native of Port Charlotte, FL, where he attended Port Charlotte High School.
