The kickoff by the kicker Alston goes deep into the endzone, but the NU returner brings the ball out. The Vol coverage unit clamps down on him; shutting him down at the NU16. Not the wisest of moves.

The Wildcats throw us for a loop. They gain 10 yards on two plays and appear to be moving the ball quite well.

On their third play, the QB fakes a handoff and throws deep to a receiver at about midfield. Streaking over and intercepting the pass is the safety J.R. Blades who heads upfield to the Northwestern 17 before being tackled.

Momentum is ours, and the offense heads out onto the field with 13:30 left in the 1st quarter.

We had sort of a trick play for the first play designed. We ran up the middle against Syracuse on the first play last week. We're going to fake the run up the middle, and I'll carry the ball on a trap over the right side.

What I didn't expect is that the Wildcat defense had a trick in mind for us as well.
