I assume those types of treadmills are impossible to use for speed or interval training. Just based on my HR (which I use to plan/monitor my workouts), it was actually harder than running outside. I had like a 25-30 BPM increase running at 6 MPH on that machine versus my treadmill. And running outside, the difference isn't that dramatic.
