[Tuesday evening. Scraping sound of beat-up folding chair on church basement floor as albionmoonlight haltingly stands up.]
"So my wife, Mrs. A, is involved with a local lifestyle magazine. And, um, they had a gala the other night. So there were a lot of people there from all of the local businesses getting awards and stuff. And so there was an open bar, and I had a few drinks. Not a lot. Just, you know, a couple beers. And then a glass of champaign near the end of the night.
[everyone in the circle watches patiently]
"Anyway, things were winding up, and the vibe was pretty celebratory. And there were these guys from the local pizza place, and they had kind of taken over the dance floor. They were pretty drunk, I think. They were really happy. And then they saw me and waved me over. And then the song changed, and we all sort of stood together and started singing . . .
[rusty church basement radiator knocks once or twice. All else is silent.]
