Yeah, I don't see it happening either (a collapse of the European women's leagues).
The point is that the U.S. had a huge advantage in player development (again, for women) for decades due to the college model. That's now been usurped by a superior development model (this is true on the men's side, too), while at the same time everything else about under-18 soccer in the U.S. has regressed into a shitshow focused on making money with actual talent identification and development being an afterthought.
But hey, we're still #1 in American Football,
Basketball,
Baseball, and
Ice Hockey, right?
