Lackluster Nitro Debut for Alex Wright
Alex Wright made his Monday Nitro debut against veteran Jeff Farmer, but the two failed to generate much excitement in a slow-paced affair. While Wright showed some athleticism, the match never kicked into high gear.
The opening minutes saw Wright utilize basic arm drags and arm bars that didn't impress the crowd. Farmer looked a step behind, struggling to find his timing.
"Wright showing some good fundamentals here, but we'd like to see more energy from both guys," said announcer Tony Schiavone, trying to remain upbeat.
Farmer took control with a fallaway slam, but his ensuing leglock attempts brought the match to a crawl. Wright finally created some space with an enziguri kick to get the crowd involved.
The action stayed pedestrian as Wright set up his German suplex to put away Farmer. "Certainly some room for improvement, but a win is a win," analyst Bobby Heenan said diplomatically.
In the end, Wright got the victory but didn't showcase his advertised dynamic athleticism. As for Farmer, ring rust was apparent.
While not a standout debut, Alex Wright remains a solid prospect for WCW's cruiserweight division. With more seasoning, he has the potential to become a mainstay. This match was more of a feeling-out process against the veteran Farmer.
