ARMANDO BROWN

Unlike Joe Lien, Armando was almost completely bypassed by recruiters during his career at Wadleigh Secondary School in New York City. We always thought he was a player, and he turned out to be a valuable member of our backcourt rotation for four seasons.

Armando arrived on campus with a reputation as a stalwart defender and a reliable ballhandler. Right away, we made use of his ability to slow down dynamic opposing guards, the kind of players who ran right past guys like Joe Lien.

Along the way, Armando developed enough offensive chops to force teams to guard him. An atrocious three-point shooter as a freshman, he made nearly 39 percent of his shots from distance as a senior.

An exceptional student, Armando will complete a degree in economics in May, and he'll begin graduate school at New York University in the fall.

When I was recruiting him, I said this about him: "Armando is the kind of player I want to coach, as I shape the character of the Lafayette basketball program." That's precisely the player, and man, we got.

Thanks for the memories, Armando.
