I view simulation theory as a legitimate option not because I want to (I don't) or for some egotistical reason, but because the evidence of how quantum mechanics and relativity each fit the observed behavior of the universe and conflict with each other and the fact that several decades of study by the top physicists in the world have been unable to resolve this. It one of those 'here are the facts as best as we can determine them. I can ignore these facts, or I can try to find the explanation which best fits them' moments.
