While I agree that U.S. foreign policy needed (and needs) to work harder to challenge China's growing sphere of influence, it should be noted that Trump unilaterally withdrew the U.S. from the TPP, a trade deal designed
specifically with this as one of its aims.
And, as a further consequence, China was able to engineer an
even larger Asian trading bloc.
