My twins were able to get a lot of college credit while in high school, by taking AP courses or dual-enrolling. They both ended up enrolling in college with about 24 hours completed. This is good in that is saves you some money, but it also requires the student to jump into core classes for their major quickly, which can be daunting and if they aren't sure what they want to do - very stressful.
