Mike Easler slammed 2 homeruns and had 6 RBI as the incredible Boston Red Sox
destroyed the Milwaukee Brewers by a score of 15 to 5 at FENWAY PARK.
Easler had a great day at the plate. He had the crowd cheering his every
move. He rifled a three-run blast in the 1st inning, stroked a base-hit
resulting in a run in the 2nd inning, slapped a one-base hit plating a run in
the 6th inning and cracked a solo homerun (his 12th of the season) in the 8th
inning. Boston kept the scorekeepers busy in the 1st inning which saw them
plate 5 runs on 5 hits and the 6th inning when they had 4 runs on 6 hits.
Boston ended up with 21 hits for the game while Milwaukee had 10.
Bob Ojeda(5-3) got the win allowing 5 runs in 8 and 1/3 innings. Ray
Burris(4-5) took the loss. 'I felt great out there today' Easler said. 'I
was seeing the ball perfectly, and I was right on it with my swing.

In a close game it was the California Angels 6, the Texas Rangers 4 at ANAHEIM
STADIUM.
California scored 5 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning with the help of 4
hits. The key offensive moment was provided by Craig Gerber who made the
crowd happy when he doubled bringing in two baserunners. Texas had a chance
in the 9th but they came up short.
The win was credited to Kirk McCaskill(4-5) who went 6 and 1/3 innings
allowing 3 runs. Donnie Moore was credited with his 10th save. Burt
Hooton(3-7) was given the loss. He was knocked around pretty good, giving up
5 runs in 4 innings.
With this win, California has a 25-32 record. They have been 6-4 lately.
With the loss, the Texas ballclub's record is 21-37, worst in the division.

Kirby Puckett had 3 base hits and 2 RBI as the Minnesota Twins topped the
Cleveland Indians by a score of 8 to 6 at MUNICIPAL STADIUM.
Minnesota went ahead for good in the 2nd inning scoring 2 runners on 2 hits.
Minnesota took care of Cleveland with no trouble in the bottom of the 9th.
John Butcher(5-4) got credit for the victory, pitching 6 and 2/3 innings and
allowing 3 runs. Butcher got help from Pete Filson who was credited with his
3rd save. Curt Wardle(5-4) ended up with the loss. He got hit hard,
allowing 8 hits and 2 walks in 5 and 1/3 innings.
'It wasn't my best outing, but I'll take the win' Butcher said.

Kirk Gibson blasted 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI as the Detroit Tigers outscored
the Baltimore Orioles 5 to 4.
Gibson enjoyed a big day at the plate. He popped a two-run clout over the
fence in the 1st inning and smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly' (his 10th of the
season) in the 4th inning. Baltimore was set down quietly in the 9th.
Randy O'Neal(3-2) went 3 and 1/3 innings allowing no runs for the win. Scott
McGregor(4-5) was the loser. He allowed 3 homeruns in 7 and 1/3 innings of
work.

Ed Whitson(3-2) and Jimmy Key(5-4) treated the New York fans to a fine
pitching duel at YANKEE STADIUM. The New York Yankees eventually emerged as
victors over the Toronto Blue Jays by the score of 2 to 1.
Whitson gave a fine effort for New York. He went 6 and 2/3 innings
surrendering 4 hits and 1 walk lowering his ERA from 5.17 to 4.75. Both
teams finished the game with 6 hits.
Whitson got relief help from Dave Righetti who gained credit for his 17th
save.

Steve Balboni connected with a 'big fly' and had 3 RBI as the Kansas City
Royals defeated the Oakland A's by the score of 6 to 3 at OAKLAND
COLISEUM.
In the top of the 3rd inning Kansas City scored 3 runs when they had 3 base
hits. Dane Iorg led off and he slapped a base-hit. Onix Concepcion followed
and he laid down a sacrifice bunt. Willie Wilson then lined a single. After
another out, Balboni stepped in and he belted a three-run homer (his 7th of
the season). Kansas City and Oakland each finished the afternoon with 11
hits.
The victory went to Bud Black(7-5) who went 5 and 1/3 innings, allowing 2
runs. Joe Beckwith recorded the save, his 2nd. Chris Codiroli(10-4) suffered
the loss.
Kansas City now has a record of 29-28. With the loss Oakland now has a record
of 30-28.

9,940 fans watched an exciting game at The Kingdome. The Seattle Mariners
topped the Chicago White Sox by the slimmest of margins, 7 to 6.
The game started off with Seattle taking the lead in the first scoring 2 runs
on 3 hits. After an out was recorded, Phil Bradley got things going when he
singled. Alvin Davis came to the plate and laced a one-base hit. Jim
Presley then doubled driving in a run. Gorman Thomas stepped in and he hit a
deep fly scoring the final run of the inning. Chicago had a chance to come
back in the 9th but they came up short.
Frank Wills(5-2) was the winner allowing 5 runs in 6 innings. Roy Thomas
recorded his 8th save. The losing pitcher was Britt Burns(5-6). He was
knocked around, surrendering 7 runs in 6 and 2/3 innings.
