Steve Bedrosian(6-3) pitched well for Atlanta in their victory. He was reached for 8 hits and 3 walks in 7 innings. Both teams finished the game with 10 hits. Jerry Reuss(3-5) absorbed the loss. He gave up 5 hits and 2 walks in 6 and 1/3 innings. The deciding run was scored by Chicago in the bottom of the 9th. Ryne Sandberg doubled. After an out was recorded, Leon Durham stepped up to the plate and he stroked a one-base hit making Chicago the victors to the delight of the home town faithful. Chicago ended up with 12 hits for the game while Pittsburgh had 9. George Frazier(4-1) went 1 inning allowing no runs for the victory. Don Robinson(2-4) suffered the loss in relief. He pitched 1/3 of an inning and surrendered 2 hits and no walks. Tom Browning(4-5) pitched a solid game. He allowed 4 hits and 4 walks in 7 and 1/3 innings. San Diego was out-hit by Cincinnati, 10 hits to 4. Ted Power recorded his 9th save. The loss was charged to Tim Stoddard(1-3) in relief. He allowed 4 hits and 2 walks in 1 and 1/3 innings. Both teams were tied at 1 runs apiece after nine innings. Houston won the game in the 10th inning. After an out was recorded, Jerry Mumphrey reached on an error. Greg Minton then let a pitch get away from him resulting in an exciting win for Houston and a wild post-game celebration by the home town fans. Both teams totaled 5 on the afternoon. Frank Dipino(5-5) was the winner allowing no runs in 2 innings. The right-handed Scott lost his no-hit bid when Brad Wellman singled with one out in the 6th inning. Minton(1-3) ended up with the loss in relief. ST. LOUIS AT NEW YORK Cardinals....... 2 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 - 2 7 2 Mets............ 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 1 2 - 3 8 0 Win:McDowell(4-2) Loss:Campbell(1-6) Homeruns- J.Clark(9th) In an great finish the New York Mets won in dramatic fashion over the St. Louis Cardinals by a score of 3 to 2 at SHEA STADIUM. New York came through with the game-winning runs in the 9th inning with 2 runs using 2 hits. Kelvin Chapman led off and started the rally when he slapped a single. Tom Paciorek was next to the plate, but was promptly struck out. Clint Hurdle then reached on an error. Len Dykstra was up next and he would hit into a fielders choice scoring a run. One out later, Darryl Strawberry came to the plate and slapped a base-hit making New York the victor and beginning a joyous home town celebration. New York totaled 8 on the afternoon. Roger McDowell(4-2) got the win allowing no runs in 2 innings. Bill Campbell(1-6) was tagged with the loss in relief. He pitched 2/3 of an inning allowing 1 hit and no walks. 'That was exciting!,' Strawberry said. 'I would have paid money to watch this one.' ST. LOUIS AT NEW YORK Cardinals....... 0 0 1 1 0 0 0 3 0 - 5 14 0 Mets............ 0 0 2 0 1 0 3 0 - 6 10 2 Win:Aguilera(4-0) Loss:Forsch(3-3) Center fielder Mookie Wilson had 2 base hits as the New York Mets defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 6 to 5 at SHEA STADIUM. St. Louis never recovered after New York took the lead in the bottom of the 5th inning scoring one runner utilizing 2 base hits. Rick Aguilera doubled. Two outs later Darryl Strawberry stepped up to the plate and he banged out a single scoring the run. St. Louis threatened in the 9th but New York was able to put down the rally. Aguilera(4-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 7 innings and allowing 2 runs. Bob Forsch(3-3) was charged with the loss. The New York ballclub's record now stands at a division leading 30-23. With the loss St. Louis now has a record of 27-27. MONTREAL AT PHILADELPHIA Expos........... 1 2 0 0 0 0 0 1 0 - 4 9 2 Phillies........ 1 0 0 1 0 0 0 0 0 - 2 7 1 Win:Hesketh(6-2) Loss:Rawley(4-4) Save:Reardon(18th) Homeruns- T.Raines(6th) Tim Raines jacked one out of the ballyard and had 2 RBI at VETERANS STADIUM where the Montreal Expos beat the Philadelphia Phillies by the score of 4 to 2. Montreal came up with 2 runs in the top of the 2nd inning. After an out was recorded, Doug Frobel began the rally when he drew a walk. Buck Rodgers then called for a steal which was successful. Joe Hesketh was the next batter, but he struck out. Raines followed and he blasted a two-run home run (his 6th of the season). That was all the runs Hesketh(6-2) needed. Montreal had 9 hits for the afternoon. Jeff Reardon recorded the save, his 18th. Shane Rawley(4-4) took the loss. He gave up 8 hits and 2 walks in 8 innings.
