Comments: Quarterback is a pathetically weak position this year. Manning, of course, is the class of this position by far. And you figure after his performance last year, Maddox will get some looks. But all in all, the pickings are very slim here. There are six starters available (including Quincy Carter, ranked below the cutoff for the list above), and that doesn't include Brunell, the second-best passer available, or Tim Couch, ranked just behind quarterback partner Holcomb (who is also available). Maddox, Bulger and Holcomb still have plenty of growing to do, as does Chris Weinke and Rob Johnson, so there are some good backup types available with decent potnetial for the future. For the most part, though, when Manning signs, the impact players left will likely be nil.

Comments: At least the quarterback position had one star. Running back has virtually no big names available. What it gives up in quality, though, it gains in simple overwhelming medicority. Basically, no one is going to have to overspend for a guy like Martin or George, because there are literally 20-30 other backs with similar skills (or not far behind) who can do just as good a job. Teams just looking to fill a hole won't have any problems. Teams looking to get an offense-defining star will have to look elsewhere.

Comments: Next to quarterback, this is probably the weakest overall position in this free agency class. Unlike quarterback, though, you can get a pretty solid fullback for lesser talent and he will still do the job for you. Comella and Smith are top-twenty fullbacks and probably the best of this bunch. But the depth of similar ability fullbacks is decent once you get past Comella.
