Gump was a popular player, but the acquisitions of Guido Metman and German Galvez, combined with the improved form of Johannes Henriksson, have relegated him to a backup role the past couple of seasons. He's really the odd man out.
That being said, he will be on the roster for a little while longer, at least until we have enough money to bring in a top-notch striker (someone with a better talent level than anything we have currently, in an effort to pursue a continuous improvement model).
Now, if you really want to be depressed, consider that Pete "The Old Goat" Tomlin is now playing in Germany.
At least he's starting for his new club, FC Ausland, and gets to enjoy some good beer.
