Wouldn't have mattered much in Cherokee (the state government thing). It's largely a bedroom (and retail) community, the schools are almost certainly still the largest employer, followed by hospitals.

Have to keep in mind (I think) ...

Georgia = 59,425 sq mi
Massachusetts = 10,555 sq mi
