Jaguars Stop Browns In OT

Cleveland Kicker Wendell Carswell tied the game with 26 seconds to go with a 29 yard field goal, but Jacksonville won the toss, and then the game, with a 28 yard field goal from Wade Guthrie.

Browns RB Jim Brown had a good day, rushing for 132 yards and 2 TDs, but QB Dave Brown was unable to repeat his heroic performance from last week, passing for 192 yards and one interception.

Jacksonville RB Fred Taylor ran for 77 yards and 2 TD's, and game MVP Vinny Testaverde was 27 of 35 for 392 yards, 1 TD, and 1 INT.

The final score was 27-24

Chargers Shock Oilers 24-10

Written off as the token champions of a weak division, the San Diego Chargers were down by 7 after one quarter, then went on to score 24 unanswered points in a 24-10 rout of the Houston Oilers.

Without starting RB Ike Fitzgerald, the Chargers employed a running back by committee, with four backs combining for 120 yards. Unheralded QB Marc Wilson completed 21 of 35 passes for 210 yards and 2 TD's.

The Chargers were able to hold Oilers RB Earl Campbell to just 57 yards on 20 carries, and took advantage of two interceptions by QB Warren Moon, who was 21 of 43 for 257 yards and 1 TD.

Redskins Offense Sucks Ass. Niners Nuke Washington, 21-10

And it wasn't even as close as the score indicates, folks. The Washington Redskins offense went out and laid an egg, as four Lou Groza field goals were all the scoring the NFC East Champs could muster in their first playoff appearance.

RB John Riggins had 62 yards on 22 carries. Sonny Jurgenson led the on-field defacation, with 20 completions on 40 attempts for 254 yards and 3 interceptions - one of which was returned 71 yards for a touchdown.

49ers RB Roger Craig rushed for 84 yards on 23 carries, and QB Joe Montana was 17 of 27 for 214 yards and 2 TDs.

Brawlers Beat Up Maroons 31-20

St. Louis jumped to a 17-3 early lead, but when star QB Bucky Richardson left the game with a hyperextended knee late in the second quarter, the Maroons season was officially over.

Moe's Tavern dominated the second half. Brawlers RB Seymour Butz rushed for 146 yards on 23 attempts and 2 touchdowns. QB Al Coholoic was 25 of 34 for 319 yards, 2 TD's, and 1 INT.

Prior to the injury, Richardson was 8 of 9 for 126 yards and 1 TD. In relief, QB Mario Lacina was 9 of 25 for 73 yards and 1 TD. RB Leeland McElroy ran for 88 yards on 16 carries.
