2003 Conference Championship Results/Super Bowl Preview
Road Warriors On The Way To The Super Bowl
Upsets ruled the day, as both the St. Louis Maroons and the Houston Oilers overcame the odds on the road and earned trips to the title game.
St. Louis upended the Moe's Tavern Brawlers 32-29. The Houston Oilers beat the Cincinnati Reservoir Dogs 27-24.
Both teams will return to the Super Bowl in a re-match of the league's first championship game, which the Oilers won by a score of 26-20. The Oilers traded star wideout Haywood Jeffries on draft day to the Maroons in order to draft LB Winfred Newkirk and bolster their defense. Newkirk had only two tackles in four games with the Oilers in his rookie season. Jeffries was the Maroons' leading receiver, with 108 catches for 1433 yards and 8 TD's.
