Upon further inspection... Dallas was 14th in Rushing Defense, and 18th in Passing Defense. Better than the Redskins in both categories, and better than New York in Passing Defense (the Giants had the league's 3rd best Rushing Defense).
Dallas had the league's best rushing offense (Washington was a close second), and the 13th ranked passing offense.
The big difference might have been turnover margin. Washington led the league with +24. Dallas was -3.
New York and Washington were 4th and 5th in Red Zone defense. Dallas was 20th.
