Free agency was a drag - as it probably will be for the next 3-4 seasons, since we're starting from scratch here. On to the draft.

Washington picks 20th. There's every possibility that I won't even get a sniff of any of the draftees we submitted.

Picks 1 through 19 go as follows:
Code:
1. Green Bay - Azumah, Jerry, RB, Boston College 2. New Orleans - Cote, Andrew, RB, Bowling Green 3. Tennessee - Faugn, Chaugnar, T, No College 4. San Diego - Fitzgerald, Ike, RB, Georgia 5. Oakland - Coles, Chris, WR, Texas A&M 6. Denver - Reagan, Ronald, ILB, UCLA 7. Arkham - Dole, Bob, G, Virginia Tech 8. Dallas - Fett, Boba, CB, No College 9. New Jersey - Bowens, Tim, DT, Miami, Florida 10. Mos Eisley - Adams, Shane, T, Eastern Michigan 11. Tampa Bay - Gindin, Jim, S, Small College 12. Buffalo - Hamlin, Ken, WR, Navy 13. Baltimore - Anderson, Richard, ILB, Virginia Tech 14. Philadelphia - Liston, Sonny, T, Dartmouth 15. Pittsburgh - Tolbert, Tony, DE, Texas - El Paso 16. Jacksonville - Poole, Lewis, G, Cincinnati 17. Cincinnati - Biletnikoff, Fred, WR, Florida State 18. Seattle - Roberts, Archie, RB, Georgia Tech 19. Philadelphia - Tolbert, Dennis, G, New Mexico

Walt Church, Brian Mitchell, and Darren Woodson are still on the board, as are Nielsen and Shuler. I figure I can grab Nielsen or Shuler in the next round, and I don't desperately need a QB right now. The choice boils down to Woodson or Mitchell. As much as I'm sentimental about taking Mitchell, a good CB would be more help right now. I take Woodson.

The remainder of the first round is:

Code:
20. Washington - Woodson, Darren, CB, Arizona State 21. Minnesota - Walker, Brett, G, North Texas 22. Cleveland - Reeves, Quinn, T, Tulsa 23. San Francisco - Gallier, Steven, OLB, Western Michigan 24. New England - Kitts, J.R., DE, Kentucky 25. Kansas City - Hopkins, Drew, WR, UNLV 26. New York - Starks, Horace, WR, Pittsburgh 27. Moe's Tavern - Middleton, Vinny, T, Nevada 28. Miami - Galloway, Tony, G, UNLV 29. Detroit - Cooks, Jose, T, Maryland 30. Pittsburgh - Foley, Will, CB, Navy 31. Houston - Newkirk, Winfred, ILB, Ball State 32. Houston - Newsome, Mercury, CB, Connecticut

Mitchell is still available to me in Round 2. So are Nielsen and Shuler. Shuler will probably last to Round 3. I'd like a good backup QB, but I gamble, and take Mitchell.

Surprisingly, Nielsen is still around in Round 3. No brainer. He's a Redskin.

I take Shuler in Round 4. There's really not much other great talent in the draft - I'll have to plug the holes with whatever's leftover.

In Round 5, I select P Lincoln Slutzker out of Central Florida. Hey, he's been the top-rated guy on the draft board the whole time... and at this stage of the game, a good punter could actually come in handy.

Round 6 gives me C Danny Ragsdale from Pitt. He sucks.

In Round 7, its ILB Johnny Rhodes from Virginia Tech. Local kid. Woo hoo.

That's it. I sign some cannon fodder to fill the roster, and then it's off to training camp.
