This has the chance to be a massive red herring clue, but here goes anyway.

You all have spent gobs of time focusing on what letters are staying the same/changing from group to group (as in "what letter(s) of the alphabet"). Perhaps you need to instead just focus on which letters are staying the same/changing.

And please forgive me on the last page - in my attempt to be helpful, I inverted the intended meaning of my clue. I'll correct it below, though I don't know if it will be of any real help.
