I apologize if from where you stand my clues and hints have been of little help. It's a fine line between a gentle nudge in the right direction, and just opening the curtain completely. I fear, however, that in my efforts to avoid giving the whole puzzle away, I have just added to the puzzlers' agony.

So, there are some bigger hints. There's the grid. There's the clue that I already gave that isn't getting the attention it deserved.
