I think I have wrapped up my hint-giving for this puzzle. I feel that I have given you ample direction, and that you have more than enough input from me to wrap this up. In fact, I've even offered a "back door" clue which would allow someone to get the final answer without even technically solving the puzzle itself... but that's just me being devious.

Unfortunately, you all seem to have moved past the relatively simple intended path to solving the puzzle, and have been looking for things that are much, much more complex. Yes, this one was tough - but with the work you've already done and the many hints and nudges you've received, I think you ought to be able to hone in on the rest.
