Terp,

I had it and what helped it alot for me was :
1-stretching everyday (twice)
2-Do this stretch and it will help-Stretch #2: Cross one leg behind the other while standing and reach down to touch your toes/floor. So all it is is touching the toes but one leg is behind and crossed behind the other see this picture #2:http://runningtimes.com/Article.aspx?ArticleID=6099
3-Also for me at least I would take Ibuprofen if it was too painful.
4-Weight loss is often a partial cause of it (basically) so if you are alittle over weight dropping a few pounds helps. I myself recently lost 30 pounds by increasing my exercise routine and my sciatica is gone.
5-Another great idea is to build up your 'core" by doing abs work like crunches and bridges for your back and abs.
6-Chiropractors are not the magical bullet for back problems. I went to both a Chiropractor and also a Acupuncturist and neither helped much. That being said it never hurts to go to a Chiropractor for aalignment but I would not expect them to be able to help this necessarily. If you do go see one I would ask your primary care doctor to recommended reputable one.
Hope this helps.
