That was me in college. But when you work in the computer lab, purposely during the times where it's slow (weekends, late at night during the week), I basically had two things to do. Surf the net or study. So I used that time very wisely and search the net for all kinds of music.
Now...eh. I'm more of one of those radio listeners now. Sometimes I try to go and find music, usually to be disappointed.
Anyway, looking through iTunes, here are some albums that I would nominate for a decade's list.

I left off the obscure stuff I listen to (which isn't much, but there is some) because I think for an overall "all-decade" list, popularity should be taken into consideration.
