I would never define a third candidate as a "need" on Day One, certainly. We don't know enough, so I don't think you're wrong to stick it out with the first two candidates. I'll probably end up doing the same.
I'm just noting, perhaps in a food for thought way, that it's interesting and potentially telling that the two of them are not taking opposite sides but actually working together to get a third candidate in the mix.
