The reason i ended choosing gamersgate even being an steam usual customer is to avoid troubles with mods and specially because patches are released immediately for GG and it could be a few days for steam. Also i'm not sure if beta patches work with steam, you must wait for them to release the official ones, and paradox games are known for requiring a ton of patches.
