Is player skill important? Do a lot of people play the game? Is there a microtransaction aspect that makes higher-level play cost money?

It's more about "types" of players, snipers, playmakers, power forwards,
2-way forwards, and checkers on offense. Defense is either offensive or defensive defenders.
How these types are placed in your lines is a strategy in itself.
One problem I have is length of the offseason.
How long you sign your players is important also.
If it's a franchise player, I will give them the max allowable for rookies.
Roster filler and marginal rookies, I usually give at most, 3 years.
RFA's and FA's, I rarely touch, unless absolutely needed.
