Hmm, my daughter has already gone over 10 in 1st grade. A couple of these were leading into/out of breaks, some were medical visits, a few were "sick" days where she buffaloed my wife. Luckily she's a good student, so the absences shouldn't be an issue in moving on to 2nd grade.
We were asked by a group of neighbors to go on a cruise this coming October, smack in the middle of school (we reserved, but will probably back out). I know a couple of families have had trips like this in the past. Not sure how they've explained the time off to the schools.
