Week 4 Review

#25 Florida State Seminoles (1-0) at #14 Rutgers Scarlet Knights (2-0)

last meeting: we've never met
series: 0-0
coaches poll: Rutgers #14 and FSU #25
the betting man says: Rutgers by 8
attendance: 41,500 - a sell out!
weather: 66 degrees, stormy
TV coverage: TV3

After an opening 3-and-out by FSU, Seth Duffy got out his guns. Moving downfield on some huge passing plays, we scored within 2 minutes on a 12 yard TD to TE Deon Maloney. We quickly led 7-0. FSU came flying back and tied it on 3 plays - this had the looks of a shootout! 7-7.

On our next posession we turned it over on downs at the FSU 28. FSU slowly worked their way downfield for a 31 yard field goal. 10-7 FSU at the end of 1.

Seth Duffy responded by leading us into scoring range, where added a field goal to tie the game at 10.

After a 3 and out by FSU we marched downfield and took the lead on a 2 yard pass to WR Wesley Kay. 17-10. Safety Vince Alston came up with an interception at the FSU 40 and ran it back to the 2 yardline. RB Claude Altenburger took over from there and we led 23-10 at the half.

To open the second half QB Seth Duffy hit TE Eddie Buckner on a 36 yard seam route for a touchdown. We had shocked FSU, and now led 30-10. Our running game took over at this point and wore down the clock for the rest of the half. Even when we didn't score we ate up plenty of time, and the defense held.

Recruiting
Again, just 1 new scholarship offer. This puts us at 11 outstanding offers. I want to bring in a max of 12, and I still need a WR or center. Things might be slow until people start deciding in weeks 7 & 8.

Local Obligation Scholarships
none this season.

Blue-Chip Recruits

1. QB T.J. Houshmandzadeh - #4 QB, #18 player nationally. scouted 75-
6'3" 202 lbs from Philadelphia, PA. Ricky is a big-time passer from an extremely solid program. His proximity to us is amazing (just 49 miles), meaning only the horrible Princeton Tigers are closer. With his focus on distance and academics, this could be a slam-dunk acquistion of our next great QB.
high school stats (after 7 games):61% completion, 1,651 yards (9.65 avg) for 9 TD's 0 INT. 752 yards rushing for 7 TD's.
offer status:Is now visiting us, and Penn State.has scholarship offers from Air Force, New Mexico, Purdue, and Penn State. We are still the top team here.

2. DE Winfred Bernard - #8 DE, #27 player nationally. scouted 92-
6'5" 253 lbs from Medford Lakes, NJ. Winfred appears to be a much better run stopper than pass-rusher, despite his somewhat light frame for the position. An excellent student, Winfred is most interested in Academics (Random Number Theory) and distance. Only Princeton is closer to him, so we should be able to lock up his services.
high school stats (after 7 games): 72 tackles, 14 sacks, 1 int.
offer status: still no change: Purdue has also offered a scholarship, Ohio State and Washington are showing interest.

3. RB Juan Weydahl - #11 RB, #112 player nationally. scouted 75+
5'9" 184 lbs from Souderton, PA. A deceptively tough runner for his size, Juan appears to be a guy who can carry the load. Coming from a very good school, I'm confident he could become our starter by his 3rd year. His distance and academic preferences put us at the top of his list.
high school stats (through 7 games): 208 carries for 1,423 yards and 9 TD's. 36 catches for 502 yards and 2 TD's.
offer status: Is now visiting us (and only us). Has no other offers, but Florida, Rice, Syracuse, and Tennessee are still speaking with him.

---other scholarship offers---

G Chris Owens - #2 guard, #34 player nationally. scouted 92+
DT Lee Barnes - #4 DT, #39 player nationally. scouted 94+

CB Todd Nykolaisyn - #3 CB, #29 player nationally. scouted 83+
OLB Doug Cerda - # 3 OLB, #46 player nationally. scouted 78+
K Marc Langford - #7 kicker, #268 player nationally. scouted 90-
Safety D.J. Cushenbery - #12 safety, #273 player nationally. scouted 65+
