On the off chance someone isn't aware, Oldboy is actually the second (I think) in a trilogy by Chan-wook Park.

The first being Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance , followed by Oldboy, then Lady Vengeance

Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance may deal with themes even more desperate than Oldboy, it's definitely not the feel good movie of the summer. Lady Vengeance isn't quite as bleak, in comparison to the preceding films it feels like a Disney flick. I'd definitely recommend them both highly to anybody who enjoyed Oldboy.

There's been a kind of renaissance in Korean cinema lately, and there's plenty of good stuff to be found if you're willing to sift through some clunkers. I really liked a film called 'Memories of Murder', a true story detailing South Korea's first serial killer in 1986, and the efforts of their podunk police in dealing with a sort of monster which completely exceeded their grasp.
