ALCS

The ALCS opens in Detroit, but the Montreal Capitals score 5 runs in the first 2 innings en route to a 5-3 win in game 1. Montreal takes game 2 in Detroit as well, by a final score of 6-2. The Caps now lead the Series 2-0 as they head home.

Detroit is able to get themselves back into the Series with a 6-2 win on the road in Montreal in game 3. In game 4, Detroit is able to even the Series up at 2 games apiece with a 3-1 victory.

Montreal becomes the first team in this Series to win a home game with a 6-5 win in game 5. They now lead the Series 3-2 as it finishes up in Detroit.

Detroit takes game 6, 6-1, and sets up a decisive game 7!

In game 7, from Detroit, the Tigers strike first with 2 runs in the third inning. Montreal gets on the board with a run in the 6th inning to make the score 2-1.

Another run for Montreal in the 7th inning ties the game up.

3 more runs in the 8th inning give the Caps a 5-2 lead heading into the ninth.

Detroit gets a leadoff double in the bottom of the ninth, but cannot do a thing with it, and lose the game 5-2. The Montreal Captials are headed to the World Series and the Tigers will not get a chance to repeat.

NLCS

New York hosts the first two games of the NLCS, and the Giants defend their home field in game 1 with a 5-1 victory. Dave Koslo allowed just 1 hit and 1 run in 9 innings of work for the Giants. New York’s pitching continues to be knittable. The Giants allow 3 hits in a 3-1 win, and now they have a 2-0 Series lead.

In Cincinnati, the Giants continue to dominate the Series, winning game 3 by a final score of 8-3. The Reds are able to avoid the sweep by taking game 4, 2-1. All the runs in this game came in the first inning. The Giants still lead the Series though, 3-1.

Once left for dead, the Reds have managed to at least send this Series back to New York with a 5-1 victory in game 5. New York leads the Series 3-2 now.

Five runs in the first four innings give the Reds a 5-4 victory in game 6 to set up an improbable game 7, after they once trailed the Series 0-3.

Game 7, from New York, should never even be played as far as New York is concerned, but now they must go out and win this one. They put 4 runs up in the 3rd inning to give themselves a nice 4-0 lead early on.

In the next three innings, the Giants outscore the Reds 2-1 and they have a 6-1 lead heading into the ninth inning.

The Reds don’t even manage a hit in the ninth, and the comeback kids have finally been put to rest. New York will play Montreal for the 1945 World Series.

World Series

The Series opens in Montreal and game 1 is tight all the way through. It ends up going into extra innings, and the Giants put 2 up in the 10th to take the 5-3 victory. In game 2, New York breaks a tie in the ninth inning with a run, and they take a 4-3 win, and a 2-0 Series lead back to New York with them.

New York dominates in game 3, with a 6-1 win, and now they lead the Series 3-0.

The Giants complete the sweep in game 4 of the Series with a 5-3 victory. The New York Giants are the 1945 World Champions! This is New York’s 4th World Series Title, but their first since 1922. The others came in 1911 and 1913.

Champion Review

New York had 2 great pitchers on their staff this year. Dave Koslo won 17 games with a 2.42 ERA. Joe Gonzales went 23-12 with a 2.98 ERA. Ed Lopat had a decent season, going 19-15 with a 3.78 ERA.

There were no standout hitters on the Giants, but everybody contributed and they had 8 guys hit at least 11 homeruns for them. 1B Babe Dahlgren led the team with a .268 batting average. 1B Phil Cavaretta batted .267 with 13 homeruns. SS Dib Williams batted .254 with a team high 23 homeruns. RF George Cisar batted just .217, but hit 13 homers and led the team with 36 stolen bases.

League Outlook

First off, for the reader, we head into ‘The Golden Age of Baseball’, so until I get the era setting somewhat settled, their may be some offensive highs and lows for 1 or 2 seasons. I am way too lazy to do practice seasons to get it right, so deal with it.

I am also pleased to announce that every team in the league is doing excellent, and there are no immediate concerns!

Free Agency, of Note

There are some great hitters on the market, but they are a bit older than average. There are also a couple good starting pitchers to be had.

The Washington Senators make the first significant signing of the year when they get 1B Jimmy Wasdell (6-6-10) for 5 years.

Washington also signs one of those pitchers, Joe Gonzales (8-8-7) to a 5 year deal.

Cleveland picks up SS Woody Williams (8-3-6) for 3 years.

Atlanta signs SP Bob Feller (8-8-8) to a 4 year deal.

LA was able to retain 31 year old LF Joe DiMaggio (6-6-5). Joe has only played for the Waves in his career.

Houston signs C Frankie Hayes (7-6-6) to a 3 year deal at over 8 million per year.

The Phillies get SP Steve Rachunok (8-8-6) for 6 years.

Washington makes another big signing. They get 3B Ben Chapman (6-8-8), a 3 time Ty Cobb winner. Ben is 56 homers away from 500 and still has a bit left in the tank to get their and help Washington make a push for the playoffs with their other 2 big signings earlier in FA.
