I'd echo the sentiments about:

Y: The Last Man. It's a great read and the TPBs are reasonably cheap. I picked up volume 7 (?) while I was in KC but I left it in my motel room when I checked out yesterday.

Preacher. Anything by Garth Ennis is gold. I like him far better than any other writer out there. The Punisher under Marvel's Max line is great.

The Walking Dead. This is a pretty good series, but it comes out pretty sporadically. There was a huge pause after issue 24.

Astonishing X-Men. Forget Ultimate, Uncanny, or any other X-comic. This is written by Joss Whedon (Buffy, Firefly) and is a great book.

Identity Crisis was good as a self-contained read while Infinite Crisis was not. Civil War is somewhat blah.
