Chief: The extent of my online experience is about two hours worth of Diablo I, so I'm in the same boat.
I got the game on Ebay for $23.50, including shipping. There are a lot of copies for sale there and it seems like they are going for about $20 plus shipping. I think GoGamer is selling new copies for $29.99, but every other place I checked was a disappointing $39.99.
