I think one of the "problems" his style could cause people is that it challenges them much more than the vanilla modern R&B/country/stevie wonder wanna be/pop stuff that is so prevalent on this show and in mainstream culture.

I'm not saying people should automatically like it, but I think they should respect it and it's different tones, melodies, etc. before they make judgements in comparison with their normal comfort zone music. It's like an alternative fanatic saying that Thelonious Monk is off key. Now, I'm not comparing Hicks with Monk by any means, but I think people understand what I mean.
