In the AL East, it has been the A’s the last few years, and again they start out on top with a 15-10 record and a 1 game lead over Montreal. Boston is 4 back. In the West, Detroit and San Francisco are tied for first place, LA is 2 back.

In the NL East, Pittsburgh is controlling things with a 18-7 record. New York is already 5 down and Brooklyn is 7 down. In the Midwest, St. Louis is in first with a 18-7 record, 2 games better than Dallas and 4 better than Cincinnati.

May

The AL East is pretty sad so far this year. Boston leads the division with a 28-26 record. Montreal and the A’s are 2 back while Washington is 3 games out. In the West, Detroit is 35-19 and has a 5 game lead over LA and San Francisco. Vegas is 8 back.

In the NL East, Pittsburgh is still on top with a 39-15 record. The Giants are 6 back, and the rest of the teams are at least 13 games back and out of contention. In the Midwest, St. Louis remains in first place with a 35-19 record, and holds a 4 game lead over Dallas. Chicago is 6 back while Cincinnati is 7 back.

On May 5, Dallas’ Chief Yellowhorse threw a no-hitter against Syracuse in a 4-0 victory. He struck out 7 and walked just 1.

June

In the AL East, the Montreal Capitals have pulled into a first place tie with Philadelphia. They both have 42-39 records. Boston is just behind them, 1 game out. In the West, Detroit is in complete control. They are 55-26 and hold a 14 game lead over the closest competitor.

In the NL East, Pittsburgh has build a comfortable lead of 9 games over New York. The next closest team is 18 back. In the Midwest, St. Louis remains in first, 6 games over the Dallas Braves.

In the All-Star game, the NL wins 9-2. Jimmie Foxx was 2 for 4 with a homerun to earn the MVP Award.

Chuck Klein is unbelievable this year. At the All-Star break he has already hit 35 homeruns. He is on pace to shatter the record and finish with an unheard of 70 homeruns!

July

The AL East is led by the Montreal Capitals with a 55-51 record. The A’s are 2 games back while Boston is 3 back. Washington is still alive, just 4 games out. In the West, Detroit is in cruise control with a 71-35 record, and an 18 game lead over Vegas and San Francisco.

In the NL East, Pittsburgh remains in front, 8 games better than the Giants. In the Midwest, Dallas still leads, but the Cardinals have cut the lead to just 3 games.

Chuck Klein has now hit 43 homeruns and there are still 2 months left in the season.

August

The AL East is the best race in baseball this year. The A’s lead the division, but Washington is just 1 back, while Boston and Montreal are both only 2 games out. In the West, Detroit’s magic number is 10 and they lead the division by 19 games.

Game 5 is pivotal, and the Tigers pitching comes through in a 4-0 shutout. The Detroit Tigers lead the Series 3-2 and the last 2 games are in Detroit.

Pittsburgh uses a 5 run 9th inning to shut the door on a Tiger comeback. The Pirates win 8-3 and force a decisive game 7 from Detroit.

The Pirates put up 3 runs in the top of the first to take a 3-0 lead in game 7. 5 more runs in the top of the 2nd inning put them up 8-0 and Detroit will have to pull off a record breaking comeback to win this game.

The Tigers are able to get a run here and there, but they can not overcome that large of a defecit. The final score is 8-4 and the Pittsburgh Pirates are your 1933 World Champions! It is their first ever Title.

League Outlook

Washington and Montreal both had decent season and they have straightened out their fan situations. All others teams are looking great. Syracuse had a miserable first season, but hopefully that #1 draft pick will help them out.

Free Agency, of Note

After breaking the single season homerun record, Chuck Klein is a free agent. He should get himself quite a payday.

Atlanta signs SP Carl Hubbard (8-7-8) to a 6 year contract.

Cincinnati has signed RF Pepper Martin (8-5-6) to a 3 year contract.

The A’s, already a Championship caliber team, sign the second better hitter out there in 1B Del Bissonette (7-6-6) to a 4 year deal.

The Cleveland Naps improve their rotation by signing SP Jim Wright (G-B-G) to a 6 year deal.

The Chicago Cubs win the free agent of the year in RF Chuck Klein (8-10-6). Kleins signed for 5 years at over 13 million per year.

The Phillies lost Klein, but sign 3B Larry Bette court (6-5-8) to a 3 year deal.

Amateur Draft

With the #9 overall pick, the Montreal Capitals got a great player in 1B Zeke Bonura (6-7-8). I thought he would have been a top 3 pick, and he is major league ready.

Here is how the entire first round played out:

Syracuse pick: P Paul Dean
Houston pick: P Bill Lee
Cleveland pick: C Rudy York
Los Angeles pick: P George Hockette
Philadelphia (N) pick: P Vito Tamulis
Atlanta pick: P Al Benton
Las Vegas pick: LF George Selkirk
Cincinnati pick: 3B Harlond Clift
Montreal pick: 1B Zeke Bonura
Washington pick: P Junie Barnes
Boston pick: P Syd Cohen
Brooklyn pick: P Whitey Wistert
San Francisco pick: P Orville Armbrust
Chicago pick: 2B Augie Galan
Philadelphia (A) pick: P Curt Davis
St. Louis pick: 2B Cookie Lavagetto
Detroit pick: P Spike Merena
Dallas pick: P Euel Moore
New York pick: 1B Elbie Fletcher
Pittsburgh pick: P Cy Blanton
