April

In the AL East, the Cleveland Naps end the month on a 12 game winning streak to take first place with a 18-9 record. The A’s are 1 game back, while the Red Sox are 4 back and the Senators 5 back. In the West, San Francisco opens up with a 2 game lead over the champion Atlanta Black Birds. Detroit and Vegas are also 2 back, while the Waves are 4 back early on.

In the NL East, The Phillies have already opened a 7 game lead with a 19-8 record. The Dodgers are in second place. In the Midwest, Chicago and Dallas are tied for first, with St. Louis 1 out and Cincinnati 4 back.

May

In the AL East, the Philadelphia A’s have taken over first place with a 34-19 record. The Naps are just 1 game back, while Washington is already 8 back. In the West, Detroit has moved into first with a 33-20 record. San Francisco is 3 back while Atlanta and Los Angeles are both 5 back.

In the NL East, the Philadelphia Phillies have opened up an 8 game lead with a 35-18 record. Brooklyn is in second place. In the Midwest, Chicago owns a 5 game lead over Dallas.

On May 6, New York Giant’s Babe Ruth is the first man to ever hit 500 homeruns in baseball. He hit 2 in the game.

June

The Cleveland Naps move back into first place in the AL East with a 50-31 record. They are just 1 game better than the A’s. the rest of the division is more than 10 games out. In the West, Atlanta and Los Angeles are tied for first at 50-31. Detroit is 5 back, while San Francisco is barely in it at 8 back.

In the NL East, The Brooklyn Dodgers move into first place with a 44-37 record, just 1 game better than the Phillies. The rest of the division is at least 10 back. In the Midwest, Chicago has opened up an 8 game lead over the Dallas Braves.

The AL wins the All-Star game, 9-7 in 14 innings. Lloyd Waner was 2 for 3 with a homerun and 3 RBI. He was named MVP.

July

The A’s go back in first place in the AL East with a 64-40 record, but the Naps are just 1 game out. The rest of the division is finished. In the Midwest, Atlanta leads the Waves by just 1 game. San Francisco is 5 back.

In the NL East, Brooklyn is holding onto first place with a 55-49 record, 2 games ahead of the Phillies and 5 in front of the Pirates. In the Midwest, Chicago is going unchallenged at 65-39. They are 12 ahead of Dallas.

August

In the AL East, the A’s finish up the month winning 11 in a row to claim a 5 game lead over the Cleveland Naps. In the West, Atlanta still remains in first place, by 3 games over LA and 5 games over San Francisco.

In the NL East, the Phillies lead the Dodgers by 4 games, while the Pirates still sit 6 back. In the Midwest, Chicago is still 11 games up on Dallas.

September 19, 1929

The Chicago Cubs clinch the NL Midwest Division. In the NL East, the Phillies are holding onto a 3 game lead over the Pirates. The Dodgers are 4 back.

In the AL East, the A’s are 6 up, while in the West, the Atlanta Black Birds are 8 up.

September 24, 1929

Both AL divisions are clinched today. The A’s in the East, and Atlanta in the West.

The Phillies will clinch in a day or two in the NL East.

September 26, 1929

The Phillies clinch and the playoffs are set for 1929.

ALCS

The Series begins in Philadelphia, but the Atlanta Birds take game 1, 7-1. Atlanta also takes game 2 by a 3-1 score. Atlanta now has a 2-0 series lead heading to Atlanta for 3 games.

Atlanta takes game 3, 4-3, and are now just 1 game away from returning to the Series to defend their title. The Birds sweep the series by winning game 4, 1-0.


NLCS

This Series opens in Chicago, and the Cubs take game 1 with a 1-0 shutout of the Phillies. The Phillies tie the Series up with a 5-3 victory in game 2. The next three games are on the Phillies home field.

Philadelphia wins 6-2 at home to go up 2-1 in the series. The Phillies win game 4 in extra innings, 6-5 and take a commanding 3-1 lead.

The Phillies finish things off on their home field with a 6-3 game 5 win, and will move on to the World Series.


World Series

The Series will open in the defending champs stadium, and the Atlanta Black Birds take game in extra innings, 6-3. The Phillies come back in game 2 and shut out the Birds, 5-0 to tie the Series up.

In Philadelphia, the Birds crush the Phillies 9-2 in game three, and then again 10-3 in game 4. The Birds now lead the Series 3-1.

Atlanta doesn’t bother to send this one back to Atlanta. They take all three games in Philadelphia, this final one by a 4-1 score. The Atlanta Black Birds are now back to back World Series Champions!

Champion Review

Jim Park was the pitching leader for the Champs. He went 23-10 with a 2.19 ERA. Carl Hubbell also won 20 games and had a 2.38 ERA. Harry Beimiler ‘only’ won 14 games but had a stunning 1.78 ERA.

RF Charlie High batted .316 and hit a team high 19 homeruns along with 61 RBI. SS Glenn Wright batted .259 and had 14 homeruns and 54 RBI. CF Ci Rosenthal batted .347 for the Black Birds.

Ty Cobb Award

AL: CF Johnny Frederick, ATL, (565 AB, .294 AVG, 35 HR, 126 RBI, 91 R, 166 Hits, .917 OPS)
