League Outlook

The Braves really struggled for the first time since being in Atlanta, and their fan interst has suffered quite a bit. It is down to a 32.

The White Sox have fallen further, and have now been sold to a San Francisco businessman. They will retain the name White Sox.

Free Agency, of Note

The Pittsburgh Pirates have finished 2nd in the past 2 season, and will get a big boost offensively with the signing of CF Pat Duncan (B/F/G).

The Braves sign up a SP, Eppa Rixey (G/G/B). Eppa is a three time 20 game winner for Cleveland.

SP Howard Armstrong (G/B/B) signs on to pitch for the Atlanta Braves.

Chick shorten, one of the top 2 hitters in FA, resigned with the White Sox. I guess he wants to experience San Francisco. He is B/F/A

The Naps make the biggest move, again signing away a big talent from the Highlanders. 2B Jim Curry (B/A/F) will be playing in Cleveland for the next 7 years.

Amateur Draft

There were a few big steals in the draft. With the #5 pick the Brooklyn Dodgers sign 1B Jim Bottomly (7/5/4).

With the #6 pick, Washington signs 1B Joe Hauser (7/4/7), who I had rated as the #1 prospect.

3B Fred Haney, who I saw as a well developed player (8/1/7) does not get drafted until pick #9 in the 3rd Round! The Cubs have found themselves a third baseman!

Here is how the entire first round played out:

Philadelphia (A) pick: P Cactus Keck
Atlanta pick: C Gabby Hartnett
San Francisco pick: 3B George Grantham
Cincinnati pick: P Curly Ogden
Brooklyn pick: 1B Jim Bottomley
Washington pick: 1B Joe Hauser
Philadelphia (N) pick: P Clint Blume
Cleveland pick: P Phil Bedgood
Chicago pick: P Fred Fussell
New York (A) pick: P Johnny Stuart
Boston pick: P Lil Stoner
Pittsburgh pick: LF Ray Blades
New York (N) pick: RF Ike Boone
Los Angeles pick: P Fred Johnson
Detroit pick: P Al Yeargin
St. Louis pick: P Mike Cvengros
