After 1 month, it is anybody’s game in the AL. While Boston and Los Angeles lead the division with 16-12 records. Two teams, Detroit and Philadelphia are just 1 back, while last place team Washington is only 4 back. In the NL, the Giants, after a strong off season have taken an early 5 game lead in their league with a 22-6 record. Pittsburgh is 5 back.

League Outlook

We are now leaving what MLB is calling the deadball ERA, and moving into a new time in baseball. We will continue to take advantage of any opportunity to expand westward, and we will also look to expand the league if conditions are ripe. A 4 division format (2 in each league) is being discussed.

The White Sox of Chicago have lost even more fans this past season. They finished next to last, which was an improvement, but they only have another year or so to prove that they can survive in Chicago.

The Phillies showed a huge surge in fans interest and on field success this past year.

Free Agency, of Note

Only a couple signings of note this season.

SP Rube Marquard signed on with the White Sox, after winning titles with the Giants and Highlanders.

St. Louis signed C Bert Adams. He is (G/F/A) and was probably the best hitter on the market.

Amateur Draft

St. Louis drafted #3, and after signing the best hitter in FA, got a ML ready player in Riggs Stephenson. He is already rated a ‘7’.

Here is how the entire first round played out:

Philadelphia (A) pick: RF Goose Goslin
Chicago (A) pick: P Pete Donohue
St. Louis pick: 2B Riggs Stephenson
Cincinnati pick: P Tony Kaufmann
Brooklyn pick: P Ray Kolp
Atlanta pick: P Chief Yellowhorse
New York (A) pick: P Bert Cole
Chicago (N) pick: P Sarge Connally
Washington pick: P Ralph Miller
Boston pick: 2B Lew Fonseca
Cleveland pick: RF Kiki Cuyler
Philadelphia (N) pick: CF Red Thomas
Pittsburgh pick: P George Stueland
Los Angeles pick: P Jim Walsh
Detroit pick: P Drew Rader
New York (N) pick: P Vance Mcilree
