April

The New York Highlanders jump out to the early 1 game lead in the AL with a 17-11 record. Los Angeles is just 1 back, while Cleveland and Washington are 2 back. In the NL, the St. Louis Cardinals hold first place with a 19-9 record. The New York Giants sit just 1 game back.

May

The highlanders created a bit of separation this month. The opened up a 4 game lead over the LA Waves and 5 games over the White Sox. In the NL, the New York Giants hold just a 1 game lead over St. Louis. The Cubs are 5 back.

June

Each league has been cut down to a 2 team race. In the AL, the Highlanders are 49-32, and hold a 3 game lead over the Los Angeles Waves. In the NL, the St. Louis Cardinals are 49-32 and hold just a 1 game lead over the Giants.

On June 6, Sandy Burk of the Detroit Tigers threw a no hitter, striking out 2 and walking 4.

The AL has won every All-Star game except the first one. This year, they won 5-2 and Frank Baker was named MVP. He went 1 for 3 with 2 RBI.

July

Not much change in the last month. The New York Highlanders hold a 6 game lead over Los Angeles. Washington had a bit of a winning streak and are 8 back. In the NL, the Cardinals hold a 4 game lead over the Giants.

August

New York is hanging onto a 2 game lead over Los Angeles. They have a 77-59 record on the year. The Red Sox have crept to within 6 games, but it might be too late for them. In the NL, the Cardinals have all but wrapped things up, with a 84-52 record and a 9 game lead over the Brooklyn Dodgers.

September 19, 1916

The LA Waves have moved into a tie for first place in the AL. The Cardinals’ magic number is down to 3.

September 21, 1916

The St. Louis Cardinals have clinched the NL division. Meanwhile, the Highlanders have moved back in front by 1 game, but now they need to hold off Los Angeles, and the Cleveland Naps who fueled by a 9 game win streak are also just 1 game back now. The Red Sox also moved to within 2 games.

September 29 - October 2, 1916

With 3 games to play, the Highlanders lead the Naps by 1 game. The Waves have fallen to 3 out.

Cleveland and New York both lost, but the Red Sox won (beating Cleveland), so the Highlanders still are up 1 game, with 2 to go.

Again, both teams lose, so the Highlanders lead is still 1 game heading to the season finale. It just so happens that Cleveland will visit New York on the final day of the regular season.

The Highlanders score early, but the Naps tie it up in the fourth. In the 6th, the Highlanders put up a 4 spot and that is all she wrote. The Highlanders win the AL by 2 games over Cleveland.

League Outlook

The Cleveland Naps again lost a lot of money this past season, and they have no money in reserve. Cleveland is a vital market to MLB, so a new owner who will keep them in Cleveland will be sought after.

The Boston Braves are bankrupt. A buyer from Atlanta has been found and effective immediately, the Boston franchise will become the Atlanta Braves. This move will nto only help the Braves franchise, but also increase the interest in Boston of the Red Sox.

Free Agency, of Note

The first major signing comes from the defending champion Highlanders. They ink SP Roy Radebaugh to a 5 year contract. Roy is G/G/B.

The Philadelphia Athletics come in with the big signing of the off season. Shoeless Joe Jackson, signs on for 5 years. He is a brilliant hitter, and has an eye for the ball just as good.

Babe Adams, who has been on a few teams already, and has won 20 games 5 times in his career, has signed a contract with the Detroit Tigers.
