School plan - EA Sports to do college football

miami_fan 02-02-2021 11:12 AM

I might have to purchase a next gen system sooner rather than later.

BYU 14 02-02-2021 11:19 AM

Thank you!!

Atocep 02-02-2021 11:31 AM

This only happened because my son installed a PS3 emulator on his PC over the weekend to play the modded version of NCAA 14 and then asked me yesterday if I thought there'd be another NCAA game from EA. I said no.

albionmoonlight 02-02-2021 11:49 AM

This is fun news.

Kodos 02-02-2021 12:19 PM

WOOOOOOOOT! Great news, and I've waited a long time for it!

NobodyHere 02-02-2021 01:10 PM

You guys have more faith in EA than I do to not screw this up.

Kodos 02-02-2021 01:20 PM

I'm sure the first version or two or three will be disappointing.

rjolley 02-02-2021 02:24 PM

Now we need 2K to create a new College Hoops 2K....

tarcone 02-02-2021 02:32 PM

Awesome. Very exited.

You would hope after how solid 2014 was they wouldn't get crazy trying to reinvent the wheel, but it is EA.

Mizzou B-ball fan 02-02-2021 02:55 PM

Take. My. Money. Now.

korme 02-02-2021 03:01 PM

College Football instead of NCAA Football.

Interesting.

Vegas Vic 02-02-2021 03:21 PM

Not interested, but I am delighted for all of you joystick jockeys out there.

I would be happy to start with a prettier NCAA 2014 with an expandable playoff field (options for 2, 4, 8, or 16-team fields). And it needs to keep custom conferences and teambuilder, preferably while allowing up to 32 teambuilder teams to be subbed in.

I'm sure I could come up with more demands pretty easily...

Absolutely.

Eaglesfan27 02-02-2021 06:25 PM

So exciting! Can't wait to play this with my son when he is old enough! I'll second the request for College Hoops 2k to also return!

Kodos 02-02-2021 06:38 PM

Nice to see you, EF!

Interesting.

Reading between the lines of the quotes in the article, they don't believe that the NCAA will be involved with CFP level college football by the time they release a game 2-3 years from now

RainMaker 02-02-2021 08:27 PM

Along as everything can be customized I am in.

My concern is that some schools are going to play hardball with their licenses and we will end up with like half the teams or conferences.

That or they don't want the stink of the NCAA on them.

sovereignstar v2 02-02-2021 09:05 PM

Give me TCY2 or give me death.

Mota 02-03-2021 07:55 AM

I can't wait to pay real money for fake college football players in the game. CUT (College Ultimate Team)???

albionmoonlight 02-03-2021 08:31 AM

Glad this is still a few years out. Don't feel any need to upgrade the XBox1 at this point. But a couple years from now, it will probably make sense.

If this came out tomorrow, I would just have to stare jealously.

RainMaker 02-03-2021 10:26 AM

Wouldn't they normally just use the previous years Madden for gameplay?

NCAA used to have a different development team in the past. I guess we'll see how they do it this time around.

I'm personally fine with a completely fake universe. There would be modders who would have fully dowoadable universities by day 1.

To make the game happen, EA Sports partnered with collegiate licensing company CLC to make sure it had the FBS schools, traditions, uniforms and playbooks -- among other things -- ready to go for the game. Over 100 teams will be in the game.
That's from the article. I don't know where people got that they weren't going to have the real colleges in the game, but that is the only thing we know is in the game. The real players might actually make it by the time the game is ready.

I really hope it is different.

Playing the Madden engine with a college skin would be a disappointment.

CFB and NFL are fundamentally different games, and their videogames should represent that.

The reason I prefer college over pro in my video game and real life is the diversity in offenses and defenses in college.

Unfortunately CLC doesn't have arrangements with all FBS programs. From doing a bit of research it appears that Notre Dame and USC (the California one) are notable schools that don't use CLC for licensing. Which doesn't mean EA couldn't make arrangements with the groups representing the schools not with CLC, but as of what we know right now, some prominent schools aren't going to be included.

Kodos 02-04-2021 01:38 PM

I'm sure they will take care of that stuff.

But they have three years to get that in place. Don't worry, Notre Dame will be over-payed for their ego stroke.

Yeah, I expect there will be a lot of pressure to make sure all the big schools are in. CLC covers most schools (I haven't had time to cross-check every FBS program) so they're already starting from a good spot. Just wanted to point that as of right now, not every team is covered by the current arrangements.

Kodos 02-04-2021 07:14 PM

I love my Senator:

New Congressional bill aims to make name, image and likeness 'a federal right' for college athletes - CBSSports.com

Quote:

Sen. Murphy's bill would also provide for "group licensing agreements" for players, a right the NCAA has left out of NIL legislation. As a group that controls a marketing license, college athletes could conceivably negotiate directly with the likes of EA Sports for their rights in the just-announced return of that company's college football video game. That would allow players' names, images and likenesses to be used in the game in return for EA Sports purchasing a group license.

Blessing in disguise. Probably forcing them to re-make the entire game rather than patch-up a shitty product each year.

Kodos 12-09-2021 12:07 PM

Dang. I was hoping summer of '22, but I guess good that they are taking their time and hopefully making sure they put out something that's solid.

Well, they're going to be using the Madden engine again, which is extremely disappointing.

How EA Sports College Football Will Compare To Madden NFL

Quote:

The game will have a separate development team to handle College Football-specific features, modes, and elements. However, the gameplay team will utilize the same technology that Madden has. That means the same engine, animation technology, and more.

albionmoonlight 12-09-2021 01:27 PM

I like the current Madden engine. But by 2023, it will be how many years old? And you want a CFB game to feel different.

I agree with Vic. Disappointing, and a missed opportunity on their part.

There will probably still be ways to independently upgrade the game. In the past, people could only change slider settings to affect the gameplay. The nerds at "College Football Revamped" have developed EA database editors to tweak the under the hood settings like offensive and defensive "spheres of awareness", "ball carrier vision", "stumble recovery", just to name a few. They have made the CPU gameplay much more realistic than is possible using just sliders.

RainMaker 12-09-2021 02:43 PM

Madden is comically bad which is disappointing to hear they'll be utilizing the same technology. Would be an opportunity to start from scratch.

GrantDawg 12-09-2021 02:45 PM

I have no hope of EA doing anything right.

tarcone 12-09-2021 04:00 PM
