Looking for some quick 2 minute test help

Hey guys, I have been working on a little project and I was wondering if a few of you with a minute or two could test it out on your machines?

It's just a test of my retro/2D gaming engine and I am trying to determine if there are any compatibility issues.

If you want to help:

(Test requires DirextX 8 or later on Windows XP or later)

1. Download this file (1.1mb)

2. Make a folder and unzip the contents into the folder

3. From that folder run PlaneShooter.exe

From there the test game should run in full screen 1024x768 and should have sound as well. (Press space to fire ESC to quit)

4. While in the game press F1 and let me know if the FPS is much lower or higher than 60fps

5. Press ESC to quit the test game.

6. Post a quick note confirming that it worked and any what Windows OS you are on.

** If you crash could you open up the file data.log in notepad and paste the contents into your reply?

That's it, I really appreciate the help, I know this is a pretty OT request, but I know there is a pretty good group of folks here.

Thanks again,

Shaun Sullivan

Hey Shaun, I just ran this. I'm running Windows 7, and was getting 61 FPS. Everything looked normal to me.

If this results in a 2d/3d baseball game, you'll be my hero.

I mentioned this on the PureSim forums, but yes, this is related to other projects I work on ;)

Thanks for the help.

Thats actually pretty cool, anyway:

windows 7 Ultimate AMD Athlon II @2.7ghz x64, 5 gigs ram

ran perfect at 60 and 61 fps

edit: figured I'd let you know at least ram and processor too, just in case.

Hmmmm. 76fps is a little high, since my code is trying to stay steady at ~60. Do you happen to know what video card you have?

Thanks for the report.

Shaun Sullivan 05-21-2010 07:29 PM

Thanks

By the way, thanks to all who have posted. This has been a great help.

Looks like if you have your driver set to force Verical Sync OFF this will happen.

The good news is the engine should account for this so it should still play smooth and not feel too fast.

Thanks for posting that.

Ryno 05-23-2010 12:45 AM

My problem was security related as well. I didn't get any popup, but it worked after I added the exe to the "My Own Safe Files" list in Comodo.

It now flips between 60 and 61.

Right you are (of course). Put Sync back on, held right around 60fps. And yeah, even at the higher rate, gameplay was just fine.

Windows Home 7 Premium, i7 core CPU, ran at 60 FPS the entire time.

FTR: a visual representation of the game using an engine like this would be the shizz and would make this an insta-buy for me.
