The 2010 MLB Season Thread

It's opening night!

Icy 04-04-2010 04:41 PM

Yeah! Can't wait to see what my always rebuilding Marlins can do this year. I'm even thinking about subscribing to MLB.tv to watch condensed games the morning after the games, as they are played too late for me to watch live in european time and also prefer to not to expend 3 hours watching full games with ads etc.

Karlifornia 04-04-2010 05:04 PM

Oh, a refreshing Yankees/Red Sox matchup! Too bad I have to work!

JonInMiddleGA 04-04-2010 05:24 PM

It doesn't feel like baseball has started until we get Opening DAY instead of the manufactured Sunday Night Baseball matchup.

Terps 04-04-2010 05:30 PM

Still two days until the O's start, unfortunately.

I agree. I'll be ready at ten for the Mets game.

I agree.

Actually, if I were a parent, I'd probably hate Opening "Day" Sunday Night baseball because I want my kids to be a part of my Boston-loving tradition, but living on the east coast, the game starts fairly late for a kid to stay up for. I know they're trying to appeal to all coasts, but it kind of drives me nuts, especially on a weekend (and let's face it, my bedtime's fairly early, too, so I'll almost undoubtedly miss the last half of the game).

Oh well. Still looking forward to my beloved Sox taking the field.

GO SOX!

/tk

EagleFan 04-04-2010 06:11 PM

Go Sox!!!

Toddzilla 04-04-2010 06:12 PM

The fact that the baseball season doesn't start in Cincinnati *with a parade* is a crime against humanity.

Lathum 04-04-2010 07:11 PM

I find it odd that the opening game isn't even on ESPN's flagship station.

SirFozzie 04-04-2010 07:14 PM

Gotta keep the NCAA happy if they decide to dump CBS for the tourney.

And good first inning for the Sox.

DaddyTorgo 04-04-2010 07:20 PM

first half an inning foz

DaddyTorgo 04-04-2010 07:21 PM

why is the board time wrong?

Jon 04-04-2010 07:26 PM

I heard on local radio that another reason it's on ESPN 2 is so ESPN doesn't give up one of their games that they're allowed to show without being blacked out in certain markets. With it on ESPN2, YES and Boston (sorry, don't remember the station) can show the game in those markets.

I do agree with sentiment that "Opening Day" should be during the day. "Opening Night" just doesn't sound so good. On the other hand, I'm just glad baseball is back and, even though I'm a Yankees fan, I would watch it whatever teams were involved.

DaddyTorgo 04-04-2010 07:29 PM

Poop

DaddyTorgo 04-04-2010 07:31 PM

Bad second

SirFozzie 04-04-2010 07:32 PM

Ooh yes. Homeruns. Very bad. :P

DeToxRox 04-04-2010 07:32 PM

Grandy with a HR in his first Yankee AB. Good for him. Will always root for that guy, great, great person.

k0ruptr 04-04-2010 07:59 PM

I like grandy, even after being a chisox killer his whole career. hes a fan favorite of mine. I hate the Yanks, but at least they have a player I like now.

Galaril 04-04-2010 08:25 PM

Geez first game and the Sox look like shit. I can see if teams are able to score 4 runs against this lineup game over. They have the offense of the 1979 Astros for christsake.

DaddyTorgo 04-04-2010 08:32 PM

dogshit

Lathum 04-04-2010 08:35 PM

Red Sox fans ready to riot in the 5th inning of game 1. Smells like baseball season.;)

are you watching what someone on SoSH just called "this third trimester abortion of a game?" As Galaril said - this team has the offense of the 1979 Astros...they have 1 hit off the tubby POS through 4 innings. It's going to be a long year.

i'm just enjoying my usual early-season hysterical swings from "OMG WE'RE HORRIBLE" to "OMG WE'RE AWESOME."

It'll settle down eventually into "meh...we're decent."

Lathum 04-04-2010 08:43 PM

I miss the good old days when Red Sox fans actually had a reason to be miserable.

Hopefully the young players start to get things turned around. And, if nothing else, at least it is another season of the fantastic Joe Angel handling the play by play.

The "sophisticated" misery to the Wrigley drunks?

SI

sterlingice 04-04-2010 08:46 PM

Who's the third guy in the booth with Miller and Morgan?

SI

Lathum 04-04-2010 08:51 PM

Oral Hershiser

sterlingice 04-04-2010 08:56 PM

Ah. I knew he sounded familiar.

SI

sterlingice 04-04-2010 08:59 PM

Can we please replace Morgan with Hershiser?

I mean, Miller humors Morgan and plays the lovable goof and defers to Morgan's "expertise" and feigns interest well. But, well, Joe Morgan is Joe Morgan.

DaddyTorgo 04-04-2010 09:26 PM

I'm not giving you shit for enjoying the game, I'm fucking with you because you were ready to stick a fork in the Sox by the 4th inning and lo and behold they came back.

just having fun with you, lighten up Francis

Hey...they looked abysmal over the first 4+ innings...on both sides of the ball. And it's been a long offseason without baseball...I'm allowed to be hysterical both ways for a couple weeks.

EagleFan 04-04-2010 09:52 PM

Good lord that made my ears bleed...

Big Fo 04-04-2010 09:52 PM

I fucking hate Aerosmith. The Red Sox putting Steven Tyler out there to sing "God Bless America" in the seventh inning is almost enough to make me root for the Yankees tonight. Almost.

sterlingice 04-04-2010 10:01 PM

Figured it was about time to start this:

The Xth (6th?) Annual Chan Ho Park Blows Thread

SI

SirFozzie 04-04-2010 10:03 PM

Was just going to come in and say "Paging the Chan Ho Park Sucks Thread.. Mr. Chan Ho Park Sucks Thread to the white phone please"

If he's a serious innings eater for the Yanks this year, I like our chances.

SirFozzie 04-04-2010 10:11 PM

Sox retake the lead on a wild pitch then a passed ball.

(then again, if Papi starts like last year, that was the ONLY way he was going to score!)
