Gay, Mentally Challenged Bi-Racial Male Cheerleader Claims Discrimination
And it's not even an Onion story.
Gay, Mentally Challenged Bi-Racial Male Cheerleader Claims Discrimination - Seattle News - The Daily Weekly |

Seems like there might be more to the story that they didn't get into. If he wants to cheer, let him cheer. He's a big dude, should be playing football though.

It's about damn time someone stood up for the gay mentally-challenged bi-racial cheerleeders.
|
He kinda looks like if Morpheus from the Matrix and the chick drummer from Lenny Kravitz's band had a kid.
|
Oh puh-leeze.
This is in/around Seattle, this guy isn't even a minority. |
I'm wondering if maybe he isn't capable of performing the dance routines in sync with the rest of the cheerleaders. That would explain why he's only allowed to use his arms (which, for the most part, does appear to be in sync in the video), which I would argue would be a reasonable accommodation.
But by framing the story in terms of "gay, mentally challenged and bi-racial" is just poor form. At absolute best, he becomes an object of pity. Far more likely is that he becomes an object of scorn and serves as a poster child for the Anti-Different Crowd, creating a backlash against people who are outside the physical/mental/racial mainstream. I'll admit, stories like this make me angry and play a significant part of why I tend to ignore or hide my bilateral hearing impairment and bipolar disorder, even in situations where I'd fill diversity quotas. I don't want anyone's pity and I don't want to be marginalized or taken less seriously because of my disabilities. Situations and slants like this only increase the possibility of that happening. |

Men will never get a fair shake in the cheerleading world.

If he only had braces, wore glasses and stuttered, he'd be a bully wet dream.

Shouldn't he have to wear the same uniform as the girls?
I see an obvious bias due to Solomon Grundy being the least attractive ogre on the squad. U-G-L-Y and you ain't got no alibi... |
I've heard this joke but it's been a while. Remind me what the bartender said.

Who finds the adjective "gay" redundant?
