Brainstorm: Thoughts on a Multiplayer League with a Twist..

Someone posted a mockup, English League Pyramid style league over on OOTP Developments, which interests me, but it's a lot of work, as you manually have to promote or relegate teams to get it to work. Which isn't so fun when it comes to single player leagues... (where I like to sim out some history before diving in)... but it sounds like a great idea for a multiplayer league.

Thoughts:

The Pyramid:

"Major League": 1 Twelve Team League, No Playoffs. Top Team is Champion (or, if playoffs are necessary, top 2 or four teams make the playoffs). Bottom Two Teams at the end of the year Drop to Division 1.

Setup: Average Attendance: 30,000 (assuming $10 tickets at all levels?). Huge Media Contracts. They have their own draft (longest draft, or generate a huge amount of players, with a small draft cycle, assuring the Major League Teams get top talent, and generating free agents that could be picked up by lower leagues)

"Division 1": (Set as an International League) Twelve Team League. Two Six Team Divisions. Four Teams make the playoff (Two from each division?). The winner of the playoffs gets promoted to the major league, and then the team with the best record that didn't win the playoffs also gets promoted (so this would be the team with the best record, unless they won the playoffs, in which case, the 2nd placed team would also be promoted). The last place team in each division gets demoted to Division 2.

Setup: Average Attendance: 15,000. Decent Media Contracts. They can't spend BIG money, but they can get some decent players.

"Division 2": Set up same as Division 1, Four teams make playoffs, two teams promoted (Playoff winner and best-non playoff winner record), no relegation.

Setup: Average Attendance: 5,000, Next to no Media Contracts.

Any thoughts?

The idea is fine. It's just finding a set of owners committed to it, that would be the trick.

I was always interested in this sort of idea. One suggestion is limiting superstar players (4+stars) into going to the lower levels.

Probably that could be generated by giving them absurd salary demands in the league setup. (IE, only for "Super Star Players".

As for Ownership, I would see no problem with allowing owners to manage two teams, as long as they weren't in the same division
