New PC Game Digital Distribution Site (GoodOldGames.com) opens this weekend
GOG.com Teaser
The site offers classic games like Fallout 1 and 2, kinda like Gametap does but instead of a monthly fee, you pay to purchase the games, which are then downloaded digitally. The benefits: A) All games have been tested and modified so they will work on XP and Vista. B) Games come with addons such as walkthroughs, high res desktops, game guides, soundtracks in MP3 format, etcetera C) Games will go cheap, they state their price points are $5.99 and $9.99 D) (The Biggie) NO DRM. You buy it, you can download it to however many machines you have, and you do not need to be connected to play your games. If you register an email with the site before Midnight sunday night into monday, you will get in their early access beta, which includes a free game (from Interplay, your choice) with every purchase. Just like I crack on the Starforce-types, I have to give props where its deserved, these guys are doing it the right way. Cheap Price, good support, and trusting the customer. If you're interested in good classic PC games, I would urge you guys to at least sign up and take a look. |
Signed up, looks interesting.
|
Thanks for this.
|
pretty interesting concept, signed up!
FM |
remind me later if i don't say i've signed up - will def take a look
|
Sounds interesting. I'll have to check it out tonight.
|
Signed up. Can't pass up a free classic at least.
|
Good stuff :)
|
Here's a partial list of the launch lineup I found:
Descent 1-3 Fallout 1 and 2 FreeSpace 2 Giants: Citizen Kabuto Jagged Alliance 2 Kingpin: Life of Crime Lionheart: Legacy of the Crusader MDK2 Redneck Rampage Sacrifice Colin McRae Rally 2005 Operation Flashpoint TOCA Race Driver 3 I might get Fallout in anticipation of the new one coming in a month or so. These are just from Interplay and Codemasters so you'd assume they have deals with other publishers, it should be a solid lineup. I loved Descent when I got my first PC, I wonder if that game still holds up these days, old-school 3D graphics age worse than old-school 2D graphics. |
Operation Flashpoint is one of my all time favorite games, the best tactical shooter ever created imho but already have it.
Will get probably Fallout 2. |
Signed up, I see at least 1 or 2 games I'll probably buy since I want to play them on newer computers.
|
Operation Flashpoint, Freespace 2, and Jagged Alliance 2 would all probably rank up in my top 10 favorite games, or at least close. Great games. Sacrifice was a lot of fun also.
I actually have all of them still though, and haven't had problems running them, but the site looks cool. I wonder if you can mod Operation Flashpoint with their version? If you can I'd almost buy it just so I don't have to mess with my OPF CD's anymore. |
just curious anyone get their beta key yet?

these days i cant seem to find a game that satisfies me for very long. this could be very good, $6-$10 bucks and a few months of fun is very reasonable. They will need to very proactive and add games every couple of weeks or so to be successful
|
No invite yet here either, it's nice to see that a number of people signed up, hopefully this site can be successful.
|
Still waiting for an invite here, too...I really hope this service does well. It has a lot of potential.
|
signed up as well
|
Got my key today! From their initial list, I'm looking at a game called Sacrifice as potentially interesting...can anyone tell me anything about it? If you buy before the 21st, you get a 2nd game free.
Or, I might just wait for Op. Flashpoint to arrive. |

trying to gauge wait time, when did you sign up for it? I'm reading on some forums about people who signed up for it back in early July... FM |
Got my code!
(I signed up a few days before I posted this thread) Just bought Fallout and Fallout 2 for $6 (what a deal). Make sure you use the same email that you requested beta access for on your account. |

Yeah, I signed up a couple of weeks ago, so they seem to be moving through their beta signers pretty quickly. |
got my key this morning
|
Wootacular! Got my key this morning.
|
I got my key this morning as well. I signed up this past Saturday or Sunday. Now I just have to decide what I'm going to get.
|
I got my key this morning too. I am going for the fallout series. I have no time right now because of work but can't wait to check it out.
|
Would anyone be up for Descent 3 online?
|
Got mine also. I'll have to decide tonight what to get.
|
I picked up Fallout 1 & 2. I thought maybe since they updated them to work well with XP and Vista that we might have gotten windowed mode, but nope.
|
I got my beta key today as well and I only signed up a few days ago. Fallout just started downloading, looking forward to trying the series for the first time.
|
Got my key too, will also get Fallout 1 and 2.
|
Got my key. I'm kind of still waiting for more stuff to be added. They really need to add in more publishers and such. Might have to break down for the buy one, get one deal. Just haven't decided on what.
|
My key was waiting for me in my inbox yesterday. Signed up last evening but didn't have much time to pick a game to try.
Now, I've never played Fallout but I find the premise very interesting and with the high praises it's getting, I'm thinking about making it my first buy. From people in the know, any reason why I should start with Fallout 1 and not go straight to Fallout 2? Sure, we're talking about a whopping $6 purchase here, but still, I'm curious. FM |
Well, if you signed up before the site opened, you should have a Buy One, Get One Free deal, so you can actually get BOTH for $6.
|
Fallout is kicking my ass in the early going, I need to save more often.
|
Quote:
yeah, I know that, but if I go with Fallout 2, then I could use my free one on some other game to try... Not that $6 is that big a deal, I was just trying to differentiate between the two, or try to know if it probably was even better to start with the first before even trying the second, possibly tougher game... FM |
For you Operation Flashpoint guys, have you ever played Armed Assault? I find it a more than worthy follow on, especially after the latest patch. I love the open-ended approach to the levels. They are not "boxed in" at all, which is something I've always loved about this series.
One of my all time greatest gaming moments was from Operation Flashpoint, and I was hiding inside a bush. The enemy finally figured out this was where I was hiding, and drove their tank right over the top of me. Good times! |
I got my beta key a couple of days ago. Looks interesting, and the price is right.
Just a heads up... According to their website, you can only use the buy-one-get-one deal once. |
DRM = digital rights management.
Yeah, I had to wiki it. Just in case anybody else was afraid to ask. Signed on to the site -- juiced to get started! |
Reading a Lionheart review really made me hunger to play Arcanum again, but I don't know where I put the disk. :(
|
No love for Fallout Tactics? That game was so much fun. I'm definitely going to buy it soon, probably with Fallout 2.
|
I went with Fallout and immediately received my code for a free game. Will keep the code for now, until I've made my mind on a second game.
Was browsing the site just now, after my buy and download, and found it funny how the price under Fallout has been replaced by the words "Own it" with a green checkmark. Nice touch there. FM |
Picked up Fallout 2 and grabbed the Fallout2_Resolution_Patch_v1.6.zip from the forums and playing the fame in full screen @ my desktop resolution.
Used the code to get Fallout Tactics which was the weakest of the series but still fun. |

Arcanum was really a great game. It was heavily flawed and it seems like everything Troika did was on the brink of being great but needed a few more months of testing. Vampire was the same way. Would love to see Arcanum added to the site though. Lionheart on the other hand I would wish upon no one. That was a terrible game. It tricks you as well because the first 2 hours or so you're in a big city and it's a pretty good experience. Then they just stopped working on the game, and it is terrible. I still have no idea what games to buy. I might get Hostile Waters because it's one of the few I never played and I always heard good things about it. Most of the stuff I still have the CD's for though. |
I still haven't gotten my key, starting to wonder if I input the wrong email address or something.
|
Quote:
Probably not...I put mine in and havent heard anything yet either |
Good, it's not just me. ;)
