Paula Abdul in talks with NFL & Fox for Super Bowl Half Time Show?

She was once a Laker girl, but now reports are circulating that Paula Abdul could be playing a much bigger sports stage.

TVGuide.com reports the "American Idol" judge is in talks to perform live in Fox's Super Bowl XLII telecast on Feb. 3. The network, which would not confirm the report, has said that Tom Petty is headlining the halftime show, but it also added that other guests could be added.

I don't get it. Paula Abdul would be lucky to sell out my local High School Gym and Fox thinks having her perform at the Super Bowl would be a good idea?

What is with all the over the hill "Branson Missouri" talent lately at the Super Bowl?

Any chance Yakov Smirnoff will be the opening act?

FOX has always been especially annoying about cross-promoting their shows. This is just another example.

What are you nuts? Abdul would sell out arenas easily if she went out on tour.

Well, sure, but that's just because people want to say "I was there" when the inevitable drug-induced breakdown happens on stage.

Yeah. Really. Her participation on American Idol has kept her fresh in the minds of the teeny bopper crowd. There would also be a fair number of people from her '80s days to buy tickets.

She may not sell out every arena, but she'd sell out more than a few shows and draw well at most of the others.

Until, as Pumpy said, she collapsed on stage.

ISiddiqui 01-14-2008 08:27 AM

Indeed. People seem to have short memories. She was, after all, huge in the 80s. Which are, of course, making a comeback.

OK, I'll bite. Would this be a singing concert or some type of cheerleader stand-up routine?

Even in per prime Abdul was a terrible singer, but a good enough dancer for the MTV video generation.

If a live reinactment of her Cold Hearted video with various NFL cheerleaders is the plan than i'm all for it. You go girl.

Lathum 01-14-2008 09:33 AM

It is obviously cross promotion plus the fact that since the wardrobe malfunction the superbowl had had very "safe" performers at halftime

Mustang 01-14-2008 09:47 AM

Paula Abdul really trailed off as a singer after her falling out with M.C. Skat Kat

Do you really think that singing ability is a prerequisite for someone selling a lot of tickets? Are you really that naive?

She couldn't continue to do it over the long haul without more hit songs. But a one year comeback tour? You are kidding yourself if you think she wouldn't sell a good amount of tickets.

No way does she sell out an arena. Maybe some 3-4K seat theater, but not some 15-20K seat place.

ISiddiqui 01-14-2008 10:55 AM

You completely underestimate the appeal Paula Abdul has, and yes, as a singer/entertainer, not as an AI host.

Dr. Sak 01-14-2008 10:57 AM

Someone has a little crush on Paula Abdul :)

MikeVic 01-14-2008 11:00 AM

I like her because she has ties to Winnipeg, but that's really it.
